Last week America received some saddened news that the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin died on August 16, 2018. The singer passed due to complications from health at 76 years old. The music legend suffered from pancreatic cancer and in her last moments the illness took her at her hometown in Detroit.   Since then, all of America has not only been in mourning but the whole world has been listening to the Queen of Soul to remember what she left behind. From the day of her death, which was on Thursday each song of hers has been streamed an estimated 57 million times in the United States. This makes her the 4th most-streamed artist of all time thus far according to BuzzAngle Music. She’s only been surpassed during this period from hip-hop hit-makers Drake, Post Malone and the late artist Xxxtentacion. 

Aretha was also a top album seller in the United States this past weekend. She sold over 45,000 copies during her lifetime until now. Among these copies of her best-selling albums was her compilation “30 Greatest Hits” that was originally released in 1987. Her 2nd all-time best-selling album was her 1972 live gospel album titled, “Amazing Grace.”   News of Aretha’s death on Thursday sent her music into a top streaming artist till the day. Today, her song streams have increased more than 1,400% from the Thursday, and her album sales have jumped by nearly more than half as much.  More specifically the songs that have been the most streamed from those albums have been; “Respect” with more than 5 million streams since her death. Also, “I Say a Little Prayer,” “Chain of Fools” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.”
