The United States continues to deal with economic fallout during the coronavirus pandemic, which is not seeming to let up any time soon. The current economic fallout includes difficulties in paying rent, incredibly high unemployment rates, and increasing hunger levels. It seems that with everything going on, Burger King’s announcement of its new dollar menu came along at just the right time. Burger King Launches Dollar Menu!
As of December 28th, Burger King customers will be able to purchase Chicken Jr. sandwiches, Bacon Cheeseburgers, fries, and soft drinks, for only one dollar each. From now until December 28th, Burger will randomly send out dollar payments via Venmo as a promotion for its new, inexpensive menu.
In a recent press release, Ellie Doty, the chief marketing officer of the North American Burger King office, said, “We know that value is extremely important to our guests, especially now.”
Doty recently spoke with Business Insider.
“When we think about what might resonate with our guests at any given time of year, setting aside the macroeconomic times, we heavily consider how they’re thinking and feeling — what’s going on in our guests’ lives that we might be able to be a solution.”
“When we promote a value menu or launch $1 Your Way menu, being sensitive to when that might be most useful to our guests is definitely top of mind,” she said.
Fast-food chains don’t regularly unveil any major new deals until the new year, as pointed out by Business Insider writer Kate Taylor. People tend to be a bit more conscious about spending in January after they have spent a ton of money throughout the holidays.
Analysts are saying that consumers should be prepared to see price cuts on fries, burgers, and nuggets. More and more fast-food chains will prepare to compete with others to bring in customers who have dealt with the devastating financial effects of this past year.
Most of these fast-food chains understand that plenty of individuals have only received $1,200 stimulus checks this past year, while others were slightly more fortunate with the added $600 second-round checks.
Due to rising costs in the past year, dollar items have slowly disappeared from fast-food menus. In 2013, McDonald’s completely dropped its dollar menu before bringing in its now-popular Value Menu, which featured a variety of options for one dollar, two dollars, and three dollars.
As digital operations continue to take over the restaurant industry, more and more fast-food chains are beginning to offer serious discounts through apps. With applications, these fast-food chains can collect customer data and create custom coupons for loyal customers.
Like many others, Burger King has been struggling during the pandemic as well. Data collected throughout the year points to this unfortunate fact.
As for whether or not additional forms of stimulus checks will be given out to Americans in the new year, much of that information is still unknown. Until then, keep an eye on your Venmo account, as you might receive a little one dollar tip to get yourself a burger. Burger King launches dollar menu for the rest of 2021.
