Trump and New York City have always been close friends when it comes to business. However, after recent events, the city is starting to sever its multi-million dollar contracts with the president and the Trump Organization.
Mayor Bill de Blasio made this announcement this past Wednesday, citing the severing as a consequence of Trump’s involvement in the rioting on Capitol Hill this past week.
“The contracts make very clear that if the company and the leadership of that company are engaged in illegal activity, we have a right to sever the contract,” de Blasio said. “Inciting an insurrection against the United States government clearly constitutes criminal activity.”
“The City of New York will not be associated with those unforgivable acts in any shape, way, or form, and we are immediately taking steps to terminate all Trump Organization contracts,” said de Blasio in a follow-up statement with MSNBC.
