Twitter is the mecca when it comes to meme-popularity and trends. While there is no exception to the rule when the trend of “I’m gonna tell my kids…” hit the popular social media platform last week.
The popular trend has people tweeting jokes and trolling their future children with false interpretations of a celebrity or pop culture phenomenon. The person tweeting usually writes the phrase “I’m gonna tell my kids…” or “I’m telling my kids…” and then they put a picture or video up of a false perspective of what the picture or video is in regards to the reference that the person is referring to.
For examples, one of our favorites shows Kendrick Lamar’s “good kid, m.A.A.d. City” front cover of the van and the caption reading “I’m gonna tell my kids this was my first car”, since the popular MC showcased his mom’s van as the first car he drove around with his friends. The caption from a twitter user poked fun at the false narrative that it was his first car and not otherwise. It’s fibbing and telling a lie at its finest.

Those participating on Twitter are having fun with false history learning and tweets that lead to laughter and twisted perspectives of their favorite pop icons.
The meme began on the infamous platform when a person tweeted wrong information about a picture and the trend started from there. This trend is one of the easiest to pick up on, all you have to do is pick one of your favorite moments in history and then tweet a picture or video that may look similar to what you are referring to but with a drastic difference. Lastly, begin the caption of the tweet with “I’m gonna tell my kids…”.
